In recent months, a vast array of controversy has abounded regarding extremely narrow total care network plans. Despite this controversy, Melody Health Insurance of Denver, Colorado has publicly stated that it plans to design a large number of low-premium total care plans for individual consumers. The selling of these total care plans are set to initiate in the year of 2017. Investors have responded positively to this announcement and have provided well over $2 million to assist in the funding of the endeavor.

The total care plans that will be offered by the Melody Health Insurance Company include networks that are very narrow, in nature. Instead of providing insurance companies, the state, and/or the government the ability to choose healthcare options, these plans will allow consumers to choose. These plans are intended to offer consumers with the ability to purchase low-cost health insurance that specifically meets their individual needs, while disrupting the health insurance sector, as a whole.

The narrow networks associated with the plans do limit the providers that are available to the consumer; however, it reduces the amount that the consumer has to pay for their federally-mandated health insurance requirement. In other words, people will be provided with the best prices for their total care coverage, but, will have less choices – overall. In other words, instead of paying for coverage that is not required and comes with hefty costs, consumers may now get what they need and pay what they are, reasonably, able to afford.

In reviewing the health plans that are currently included on the Affordable Care Act, it has been determined that approximately 14% lack specialists in one of the specialties that are said to be covered. As a result of this finding, there is now a law being put into place for each state to increase the amount of coverage options for specialties to consumers so that their “total care” coverage really is, in fact, “TOTAL care”. This will prove to be highly beneficial to consumers. Once states are requested to provide standards when it comes to their provider network, more realistically affordable total care options will be available for consumers. While networks are highly narrow, the care rendered by such plans will prove to offer a higher level of comprehensive coverage when it comes to the health.
