consumer-driven health planOverspending on Plan Services
The consumer-driven health plan (CDHP) spending records were evaluated during the years of 2010 and 2014 by the Health Care Cost Institute (HCCI). It was found that spending was about $500 less than the traditional PPO plans and HMO plans. The utilization rates were between 9% and 13% less.

This was in line with the goals of the health plan to reduce any services deemed unnecessary and the transfer of costs to the actual beneficiary. Even though the plans resulted in lower costs associated with healthcare, it was established that the members were paying higher amounts in terms of out-of-pocket expenses.

It is no surprise that health care costs have been increasing over the past several years. The consumer-driven health plan has been attempting to balance the lower level premiums with the higher level deductibles in order to place higher limits on the spending that comes from out of the pockets of consumers.

A  consumer-driven health plan is  becoming increasingly popular, but, professionals are urging individuals to look past the premium dollars that are being spent. Instead, they are encouraging consumers to focus on the amount of money that is being spent on health care services, directly.

The enrollment of these types of plans has increased to 27% in the year of 2014 from 15% in the year of 2010. These consumer-driven services are taking on an immense share of people who require insurance. Those that have opted for this type of health care are actually experiencing higher levels of satisfaction, despite larger out-of-pocket expenses.

Additionally, these plans are resulting in higher amounts of savings for large-scale employers. The individuals that are part of the consumer-driven healthcare services are spending 1.5 times more than those that are not on these types of plans; however, those individuals are actually getting more for their dollar than those that are still paying for traditional plans.

There are many different advantages associated with consumer-driven health care services. The first is that there is an elimination of volume-driven healthcare. Instead of having unnecessary services and treatments performed, patients are now having only services and treatments performed that are considered to be absolutely necessary to their health and well-being.

The next advantage is that this type of health care is leading to less costs, overall. If you are a practitioner, it is imperative that you opt for value-driven health care.
